Sushi has become a delicious staple of the American diet. It is one of those foods that manages to remain exotic even though we consume it on a regular basis. Being that it is a specialty, folks are far less likely to attempt to make it at home. Now that folks are far less likely to go to restaurants there may be a sushi void in your household. For all of these reasons this could be the perfect project for you and your teen. Unless you’re able to get to a specialty store to pick up the correct and unique items you will need, you may have to allow time to get certain things delivered. Below is a list of things that you might need. Keep in mind this is all before you even choose which kind of sushi you’re going to make.

Bamboo Rice Paddle
Bamboo Rolling Mat
Roasted Seaweed Sheets (Nori).
Sushi Rice
Rice Vinegar
Soy Sauce
Wasabi.
Chopstix for Everyone
Sushi Oke/Hangiri – optional, but recommended.

Tanks Mom and Dad! This is a hobby I can really get into.

Here are some fun facts about this great passtime:
You never have to take the fish for a walk or clean poop out of your yard.

They come in a wide variety of looks and sizes.

The sound of the constant water filtration is relaxing although it can lead to constant feeling that you need to go. Watching the fish in the gently flickering dappled light and the rushing water with bubbles can be extremely relaxing, bring down stress levels and help you get to sleep. There is also something to be said for having to run the system and balance the pH to keep your fish healthy and alive. These activities encourage nurturing, responsibility and just a touch of science.
